Error while partitioning 3TB disk in Linux

You connect your brand new 3 TB external USB HDD to your Linux Ubuntu [derivative] PC, you run the standard disk utility and it fails with a message:

“Error creating partition table: timeout (10s) waiting for change”

Well, the reason is very simple – not all software yet is working well or at all with those new large capacity drives over 2.2 TB in size. No reason to worry. Just get a decent tool, e.g. GParted.

Install it

  •  sudo apt-get install gparted

Then run it…

  • sudo gparted

P.S.

Some good reading here and here.
