Can’t run X11 programms for user via ssh

You log in to remote box with ssh -X or ssh -Y and can run X-Window programs fine as the root, but as long as you su to a regular user and try to do the same, you get an error message:

“X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.”

You follow all the advices about editing the ssh and sshd config files, but to no avail.

The file .Xauthority is non-existant for the user and you can’t figure out how to create it.

Workaround:

Relax and just log in via ssh as the user and not as the root. No su – no problem!
