Extract Windows icons in Linux

You need wrestool utility from icoutils package to extract icons from Windows executable and dynamic link library files.

Run the following command, replacing “sourcefile.exe” with the actual name of the source file. It will extract all the icons that are there in the file.

for i in `wrestool -l sourcefile.exe | grep group_icon | awk ‘{ print $2}’ | cut -f2 -d=` ; do wrestool -x -n $i sourcefile.exe.exe > $i.ico ; done
