HP LaserJet 1020 does not print in Ubuntu

So you have your Ubuntu (say 10.10) with HP LaserJet 1020 successfully recognized and installed. But it does not print. Anything sent to printer hovers in the spooler for a while and then automagically disappears without a trace.

Fix it like this:

  1. Remove the currently installed LaserJet 1020 printers (System->Administration->Printing)
  2. Install some software
sudo apt-get install hplip; sudo apt-get install hpijs-ppds
  3. Run this special HP printer setup and answer the questions
    sudo hp-setup -i
  4. Reboot

You may run hp-testpage as a regular user to test the newly installed printer.
