Remote Desktop connection to Windows XP inside the VirtualBox

So, you have your Orcale VirtualBox running MS Windows XP and you want to connect to it using Terminal Services client. But you can’t.

Just try this:

First in your VirtualBox:

1) With your Windows XP virtual machine switched off, right-click it and select “Settings”

2) Go to Network

3) For the first network adapter change the “Attached to” to “Bridged Adapter”

This will give your virtual machine a real LAN address, which you should use to connect to it.

Afterwards start your Windows XP virtual machine and log on as administrator user. Then:

1)

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Remote

Tick “Allow users to connect remotely to this computer”

2)

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups -> Groups -> Remote Desktop Users

Add your username to the group.

3)

Select Start -> Run and type in “cmd” and confirm by Enter.

At the command line type “ipconfig” and write down the IP address of your virtual Windows XP machine

Finally:

1) Run your Terminal Services client with the actual IP address of your virtual machine (written down before).

  1. […] First, make it have a real IP and accept remote connections as described here. […]
