Windows RD client fails – no client access license

You try to connect from your Windows box to your MS Windows server just the same way you normally do, but it fails with the following message:

The remote session was disconnected because there are no Terminal Server client access licenses available for this computer. Please contact the server administrator.

A quick fix is this:
1)
Run “regedit”:
Start -> Run -> regedit

2)
Find the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensing

3)
Make backup (just in case)
– Select “MSLicensing”, then
– File -> Export -> Selected branch
– Type in the file name and store it in some place where it later can be found if needed.

4) Delete the found key:
– Select “MSLicensing”, then
– Edit -> Delete

If you run MS Vista, then running the RD connection in administrator mode may be required (right click on Remote Desktop Connection icon + “Run as administrator“).
