Change Grub2 boot default

It may be hard to get used to the way the changes to the Grub boot menu are done now in Ubuntu since moving to the Grub2. But actually it is much simpler than it may seem.

If all you want is to select which of the menu entries shall be booted by default then:

  • go to the file /etc/default/grub
  • change the value of GRUB_DEFAULT to your liking (remember, that menu list is zero-based, so the first entry would be 0)
  • run update-grub
