Background image in Grub2

You may add bitmap background to the boot screen of Grub2. Simple way to do this:

  • go to the file /etc/default/grub
  • add line GRUB_BACKGROUND=<image-path-and-filename>
  • run update-grub

You can use tga, png and jpeg (8-bit) images. Image color mode shall be RGB (or it will not display).

If you want, you may install default  Grub2 backgrounds collection by running command

sudo apt-get install grub2-splashimages

Its image files are stored in /usr/share/images/grub.
