MySQL dump/restore

This is the most convenient way to back up and later restore MySQL database data.

Back up:

mysqldump --user= --password --database >

Restore:

mysql --verbose --user= --password <

Another example, dumping gzipped all databases without providing a password (read about it here):

mysqldump --all-databases | gzip > /var/db/dump/mysql.sql.gz
